NOMS service user involvement strategy

We continue to work with Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire probation trusts and with HMP Holloway and HMP Norwich to test methods of service user involvement. We are training teams of service users in the probation trusts as peer researchers. They will design and conduct research with other service users and key staff and make recommendations on improving service delivery and service user involvement processes. They will then work jointly with staff to develop an action plan which will be incorporated in the trusts business plan.

At HMP Norwich we have conducted a review of current prisoner involvement with prisoners and staff and have set up a joint prisoner/staff working group to develop an action plan based on the recommendations.

At HMP Holloway we are working with prisoners to develop a process to encourage disclosure around sensitive issues such as domestic violence and sex working to enable women to access the right support. This process would be replicable across other women’s prisons and could be used to address different issues pertinent to individual prisons.
