Revolving Doors responds to the Ministry of Justice’s Neurodiversity Action Plan update

Today, the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) publishes its update report following the release of its Neurodiversity Action Plan in June 2022.

In response to the first update, six months on from the neurodiversity action plan, Zahra Wynne, Policy Manager at Revolving Doors commented:

“While we welcome the progress made against the action plan, such as the improved use of neurodiversity screening tools across the system, given that up to half of people entering prison may have some form of neurodivergent condition,1 this issue is sorely lacking the attention it deserves. We hear repeatedly from our lived experience members that their conditions are misunderstood by the agencies that are supposed to be there to help them, leading to worse outcomes at every step of their journey. At a minimum, those with lived experience of the criminal justice system with a neurodivergent condition should be at the center of any actions designed to improve their experiences, which we will continue to advocate for with decision makers.”
