As the Research Manager for Revolving Doors, it is Monica’s responsibility to work on our research projects alongside peer researchers, support with our funded evaluations as well as establish new, and maintain our existing, academic partnerships. In regard to her research background, Monica obtained her PhD in Criminology at Cardiff University. Her thesis focused on Black mothers’ experiences during and after imprisonment, using narrative Black feminist methods. She also holds a Master of Science Degree in ‘Social Science Research Methods (Criminology)’ which she also achieved at Cardiff University. During her PhD Monica was actively involved in the co-development of several student-led projects, webinars and conferences relating to the racialised and gendered experiences of people in Britain and was one of the co-founders of the Migration, Ethnicity, Race and Diversity research group (MEAD), which she co-convened between December 2019 to July 2021.

Before joining Revolving Doors, Monica worked as a Teaching Fellow in Criminology at Bath Spa University and prior to this taught seminars and workshops at Cardiff University as a PGR Tutor in Criminology and Social Science Research Methods. She also has experience working with, and advocating for, imprisoned people and their families within charity organisations, such as the Prison Advice and Care Trust where she worked as a Family Support Worker. Monica is dedicated to challenging systemic racial and social injustices within the Criminal Justice System and wider society.
