“Deeds not words” Revolving Doors responds to launch of Women’s Justice Board
Today (Tuesday 21 January) the Government’s newly appointed Women’s Justice Board meets for the first time. The Board brings together sector experts – including Revolving Doors trustee Dame Vera Baird – to identify ways to reduce the number of women caught in the justice system.
Revolving Doors Chief Executive Pavan Dhaliwal said:
“Too many women are in custody, many of whom are themselves victims of abuse and exploitation, experiencing unmet health and social needs which require support – not cycles of punishment.
Given the previous Government’s failure to deliver on the Female Offender Strategy, what is needed now is deeds not words. We will be holding the Lord Chancellor to account to fulfil on her pledge to have far fewer women in custody.”
