Sitting on expert reference groups
We are a member of the Expert Reference Group for NICE guidelines on Achieving Better Access to Mental Health Services. In particular we have been looking at emergency care responses from police and emergency services. The aim is to get better patient outcomes by establishing consistent guidelines across national systems. This is just one example of the groups we have been part of.
Supporting commissioners to develop their service specifications in the South West
We have carried out prisoner consultations in HMP Exeter, Dartmoor and Channings Wood as well as community consultations with recently released prisoners. These examined priorities for healthcare, unearthed good practice and highlighted key concerns about social care needs and the use of NPS (Spice). Throughout this work we identified a strong desire for heightened level of offender and ex-offender involvement. As a result of our work, service user involvment has been made a specific focus in the service specifications for these prisons.
